I KNEW It!

I have long believed that karma, the universe, the cosmos, whatever you want to call it, has it out for me. Things like going on vacations and enjoying myself have unleashed whirlwinds of misery on myself and my friends. Case in point: August 2006, I went to Disneyland with my parents, brother and sister-in-law, and one of my best friends and we had a wonderful time. Not one week later I was laid off from my job, that same day my friend found out her boyfriend was a two-timing toolbag, and in the following months my mother was diagnosed with not one, but two terminal illnesses, and my paternal grandmother passed away. So I should have known when I made plans to go to California for a week this fall, something would happen. Not two days ago, my aunt, The Accidental Housewife, and her husband, Mr. Big, got the plane ticket as my birthday present. And today I get jury summons covering Oct. 15-Nov. 23. JURY SUMMONS! I have only officially been a resident of the state for 27 days. UGH!

WOW. That is a bit weird...conspiracy is what I like to call it. So sorry.

Delaying service because of vacation is a viable excuse here in CA. Is that so in WA?

Is it an actual case? Have you actually been called into the courtroom? Because I was on call for jury duty about a year ago and they never called me. You never know, you could get lucky.
But that does really suck.

Mare yourself sound bias, make them kick you off the jury!Seriously, priorities here! :)

Here is how it works, the summons gives you a six week time period. You submit a profile and then you get a notice to appear that has a smaller time period and you have to show up for those days. Or something.

I'm with esperanza. Make them think you're nuts!

Ok, that is lame-wad. I'm with Esperanza...just bust out some totally inappropriate comment and you'll be home free. Turn off the filter and see what happens. Hee.

I don't know what is up with the Women in our family and jury duty. Mom got them quite a bit when we were younger and now you. I don't think Karma is hating you but all women in our family. Call Dean and Sam and see if they can do anything. If nothing else you could stare at them and you would have a better day!!

Any excuse to call Dean and Sam, Jazzfreak. ;)

Some guy in Mass. is now under investigation and facing perjury charges because he declared himself to be a racist, a homophobe, and a liar to get out of jury duty, so I might want to avoid going overboard on the crazy.

My brother in law just says he's racist and that works ;)

Wow another simultaneous post! jinx! Yeah I heard about that guy. Don't mess with jury service!! And how dare the state of WA do this to you on your bday!! I'm sure a summons is coming my way in a few more months. I got out of it earlier this year using pregnancy as an excuse. I guess that one won't work for you ;)

Don't think my comment went through, so here it comes again :-)

Glad I found this blog today. Enjoyed the read and the photos.

Here comes an invitation to visit my blog--this week if possible--as my "Spotlight the Youth" contest ends Friday, and lots of votes are needed to make it work. So please spread the word.

Thanks so much.

Scully, I can't speak for your court system, but typically if you call ahead of time and explain that you have a vacation, but are willing to serve during another window, the jury coordinator will be accomodating. It may be worth a shot before filling out the questionaire and getting stuck
