Which Team Are You On?

Last weekend I found out my sister-in-law, Mrs. Mime, loves BBC miniseries almost as much as I do. So I forced her to watch the most recent adaptation of Jane Eyre and North & South, both of which she enjoyed. Also, my brother and dad got sucked in and enjoyed them to, so no eye-rolling from them about my viewing choices!

But, having watched North & South again (all four hours in one sitting this time) I discovered I was in something of a quandry. Usually when people ask me what I'm looking for in a man, I reply that I'm looking for a modern-day Mr. Darcy or George Clooney, depending on how quickly I want to shut down the conversation. But I think, just maybe, that I like Mr. Thornton better than Mr. Darcy. I know! So my question to you all is:

Team Darcy or Team Thornton

I don't know the other...but I'd probably say Darcy any day any time!

Oh dear. I don't even know. On the one hand, Mr. Darcy never kicked the crap out of one of his employees. On the other hand, in the book Mr. Thornton didn't do it either--it was just in the movie. Also he looks like an amazing kisser. But he's also a workaholic, whereas Mr. Darcy is independently wealthy and would have lots of time to just hang out with me.

I dunno. That's really, REALLY hard.

I go for team Darcy although I am also thinking of Briget Jones's Darcy. And I don't know Mr. Thornton.

Yeah, Nemesis, Movie Mr. Thornton did kick the crap out of an employee, but the employee WAS risking the lives of every single person in the factory. Also, he made up for it by creating the cafeteria thing. Ditto on the amazing kissing. It is a dilemma though.

ZB and Cherbear, I highly recommend checking Mr. Thornton out in North & South. Because it is totally worth it. Just get the 2004 miniseries, not the cheesy Civil War epic w/ Patrick Swayze.

Okay I have no idea about Mr. Thornton, You keep talking about the North and South. I must get my hands on it this week. Im very curious to find out which one I would pick. But right now it would be, between Mr. Darcy and Tom, Jane Eyre's love interest in the movie Becoming Jane. I really enjoyed the movie. Have you gone and seen it yet?

I am feeling very left out that I haven't seen North and South...Do you suppose I could rent it?

I got it through Netflix, Katie. Twice. In one month. If that tells you anything at all. A better bet might be checking your library's catalog.

Mr. Thornton definately a good choice, but I think I would have to pick Mr. Darcy. Like Nemesis said, he is independently wealthy (and he doesn't lose all his wealth either) and he smiled a whole lot more. The best part of North and South is the last five minutes where he finally smiles. Hard choice, I guess I would take which ever one came along first ;-)

I've moved over to the Mr. Thorton team, I like that he is a hard worker, self-made man as well as hot!Plus he seems to have more of a reason to be snooty than Mr. Darcy.

Being a man, I don't feel qualified to comment but I have cracked and rented the first of the North and South DVDs so I've watched the first 2 episodes with my wife. So far we've both enjoyed it. I don't know the plot at all so no more spoilers please :-)

Darcy! don't take no umph jives... Darcy! We are alive!!

I vote for team Darcy. I was home sick on Monday and happened to watch Pride and Prejudice (the Keira Knightly one), so I thought it was funny to read your post the next day. It's worth watching that whole movie just to see him walking through the field towards her at the end.. hot DANG!

I must admit I haven't been introduced to Mr Thornton either, but I'm fast approaching the desire to.

And I have started reading a Room With a View.. aren't you SO PROUD! I should say I deserve a gold star. Thanks for inspiring me to read. You know I need it!

Three cheers for reading A Room With a View. It is one of my all-time favorites. I would recommend the movie when you are done, but there is a substantial scene w/ male nudity, and I don't want to corrupt you.

Also, I have been thinking and Darcy is independently wealthy and hot (that field scene IS good, but still not quite the lake scene, no?) and what not, but I find the whole Thornton-as-self-made-man thing extremely attractive. I mean, all Darcy did was inherit, Thronton worked and sacrificed, which I think means he would worship the love of his life that much more, as his life had been so barren before. Sorry, this should be its own post.

to be the second man that is interjected his comments, I vote for Mr. Thornton because you know he isn't lazy like Mr. Darcy might be. Now before I get jumped on I am not saying he is lazy but you know that Mr. Thornton can work and besides he is so much cooler than Mr. Darcy. Another reason is that Mr. Thornton is really good with kids and you don't know if Mr. Darcy is.

Yes.. the Lake scene really is awesome, I would say tied.. I wish they could combine the two. But in general, I much prefer the A&E version in every way..

Alright, alright!.. I'm watching North & South SOON.

I went to the public library yesterday and reserved a copy of North and South. I can't wait to get introduced to MR. Thornton. It should arrive middle of next week. Yeah!!!!
