Things That Suck, Part Infinity

  • Being put in charge of the AP/AR at work. I HATE dealing with that stuff.

  • Being the one my Visiting Teaching Supervisor calls to guilt-trip about not visiting the women on my list. Honestly, it has been a wretched, insanely busy summer. Call the other woman and guilt-trip her.

  • Proofing the design for my parents' headstone. Seeing the dates makes it real in a way I'm not ready to deal with yet.

I just had an idea - if Visiting Teaching was voluntary, rather than quasi-mandatory - then the people who wanted to would do it with each other, leave the rest of us alone, and visits wouldn't feel so artificial. I bet, without feeling forced to, for reporting stats monthly etc, more people would want to do it. And we could start the program on an exploratory basis - so that HT is still required and everyone is still visited.

I like the idea of voluntary VT. VT is good in the way the kinda forces you out of your comfort zone by visiting with ladies you wouldn't normally visit. Which is nice because you then get to know more people. I do hate the artificialness of it all though. It's like something that gets done so it can be crossed off the list; like a chore, and it shouldn't be that way. I'm sorry about #3 on the list. I wouldn't want to deal with that one either.

Volutary VT...interesting idea. Pretty sure nothing would get done then. I always like to do my VT super early & then call my supervisior like the second I get back. Over achiever, I know! But sometimes I have those busy months...& I feel like a total slacker. I don't really undertand #1..but that's cool---I don't think that it's one of those things I want explained to me. #3 is pretty crappy. Of course, Now I am reminded of my own crappiness in that I did not send you a card. Lame friend that I am.

Agreed. If it wasn't "mandatory," it wouldn't get done and I think we need it. Not that I am good at it, or always enjoy the visits I give/get. But there have been wonderful/needed/inspired visits.
This being said---supervisors need to be tactful and realize people have lives. I know, becuase I have had this calling 7 times already--no exaggeration, not my favorite job...and sometimes I'm good, sometimes I'm not!

It would be nice if the supervisors or director or whomever makes assignments took into account people's scedules. Because I can only do it after 5 on weekdays or Saturdays and it hasn't been working well. Obviously.

Actually the RSP and VT coordinator make the assignments, and they SHOULD be praying about it, though that doesn't always happen. Probably the people who need to take into account your schedule are your own VT ers. I personally only do visiting teaching on Sunday, because no one in my ward is home any other time.
I hope everything else gets better for you.
