I fear I am becoming one of those girls. The ones with the curtains of hair who will cut one if one so much as mentions cutting their hair. They can be seen quite frequently in BYU singles wards and on What Not To Wear. They seem to get their sense of identity from the curtain of hair that falls from their head to near their waist. My hair has never, ever fallen anywhere near my waist, but it has become quite long. And I started having panic attacks when I thought about getting a hair cut. Even though this is what I have been dealing with:
That, my friends, is a long, ratty, prone-to-tangles mess. And that picture was taken on a particularly good hair day. Nothing I did kept it from looking shaggy. So I was faced with a choice: look like a homeless person or cut my hair. Which started me hyperventilating again. The craziest part is that my hair grows quite quickly. The picture taken below was taken almost exactly two years ago:
My hair was barely chin length then, meaning my hair grew around 12 inches between December 2005 and December 2007. Which, if I'm doing my math right, means that my hair grows about 1/2 an inch per month. I should not be having anxiety attacks about cutting my hair; it grows like a weed. Which is why today after work I faced my fears and paid my lovely stylist to do this:
I lost 5 or 6 inches and gained a lovely auburn shade. But more importantly, despite the somewhat sullen expression in the above photo, I got a hair cut I love. And if I really want them back, I'll have those lost inches by next Christmas.
Sidenote: I just realized I'm wearing three different sweaters in the exact same shade of blue-green. Maybe someone should alert What Not To Wear after all.

I love the sweeping bangs! And the color is to die for. Way to go, Scully!
Looks lovely!
Yes! I quite like it as well! Very beautimus. I love how long it is! It doesn't look shaggy at all.
and the color is great too. And the blue-green sweaters... hardly a crime!
way to be brave.
Ooh, jealous. Love.
I'd call What not to Wear but you are too cute, they just wouldn't except you. As for the hair---I love it short. Wow, it was really long. I think that it's so beautiful either way. I can't seem to get my hair short enough at this point in my life. What does that say about me?
Nice hair! It's great and a good length. That's about as long as my hair will grow before I get frustrated with the tangles and avoid brushing it all together. Which is why I got mine cut about a month ago. ZB, I sympathize. I can never seem to get my hair short enough either. Even my current hair cut is too long.
There is nothing wrong with long hair, as long as it has a good cut. Do you know why you have such trauma when you think about cutting it? I'm glad you didn't go super short again, I like the new look!
The other comments are, I think, all from females. As a middle-aged married man I'm not sure if I dare comment for fear of sounding like a whacko. I'm going to take a risk... please nobody think I'm a whacko! - I'm just offering an honest opinion. And I'm not a whacko.
So, here goes...
Your hair length makes you more attractive. The colour is good too. It's suspiciously close to the hair colour of the "real" Scully, but who cares?
You also deserve a compliment for not smiling like you did on the older photo. I guess you're concentrating on some complicated arrangement of mirrors (which I can't work out), but the effect is good.
Ohhhh I LOVE IT! The cut and the color are great!
You look wonderful. Yay for gorgeous hair!
You don't sound like a wacko, BlackJazz. And I agree about that middle picture. It was one of those family picture events where your face is so tired of smiling it morphs into a clown face that your mother thinks is adorable but you hate because it makes you look like a wack-a-do. It was the only picture of the hair I could find.
cute bang swoop!
You are beautiful, Christen! I love it! And since I'm known for wearing a baseball cap for a week after each haircut, I understand the fear!
